Canon 4520 won't print legal size properly

Tarantzilla

Setup:

Operating system: Windws 8.1

Printer: Canon PIXMA 4520

Connetion: WiFi on local area network.

(Ask if you need more information.)

I've had poor relations with this printer since I bought it a couple of years ago. But, I've managed to cajole it for the last two tax seasons into printing my tax spreadsheets in landscape mode on legal paper. Until this year. And the hammer drops pretty soon now! I gotta get this fixed ASAP.

The printer has printed in landscape on legal paper before this, so I know it's capable of doing so.

I can still print on letter paper both portrait and landscape.

But this time, when I tried printing out a copy of my spread sheets all I can get is the center 50% (approx) of the spreadsheet page centered on the legal paper. The left hand 25% of the spread sheet is missing; all I have is clear white paper. Same thing on the righthand side. All I can get is about the center half of the spreadsheet centered on the legal sized sheet in landscape mode. And the IRS is not interested in white space!

I finally became so frustrated that I reinstalled the Canon software using the original setup disk, which promptly went to the Canon website to download the drivers, etc. So, in theory, I'm using the latest, greatest version of their software.

But now, there is no option for the use of legal sized paper! It simply isn't listed anywhere in prefences or any other menu that I can find.

So, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is either to tell me how to fix this printer, or tell me which model Epson I should buy to replace it!

Greetings,

This is likely one of the following:

Zoom settings

Scaling issue

Incorrectly set print area

The issue is likely in the program you are printing from and not in the printer driver.

It turns out that you are correct! Using both an unrelated graphics program and an unrelated word processer I was able to print both a photo image as well as a textual document on legal paper in landscape mode with no problem.

So, as an emergency workaround I massaged my tax spreadsheets and fed them into an alternate spreadsheet program, and they printed out just fine as well.

So that leaves me with the question of, "What went wrong with the original spreadsheet program?" But, I have nearly a year to figure it out, or never, depending on whether or not I want to adopt the new program instead. But neither should be a topic for this forum.

Thanks again for your help.
