new to me gimp3

I have downloaded Gimp version 3 for macOS.

One thing that I like is the GEGL operation DCT noise reduction.

https://docs.gimp.org/3.0/en/gimp-filter-noise-reduction.html

This is a split screen of an ISO 16000 photo from an EOS R5. I saved a 16 bit TIFF from DPP and loaded it into gimp. I used a 16x16 patch instead of the default 8x8 and that caused it to take a very long time to run on a 8000x5333 image. This is a crop from a photo of a Fox Squirrel (Sciurus niger) in Norman, Oklahoma, United States on May 29, 2025 and a screen capture of the eye during editing in Gimp 3. In Canon DPP I set the noise reduction to 1.0 before saving it and loading it into gimp.

One other new feature of Gimp is that it uses the jpegxl library which has the improved JPEG compression from https://arxiv.org/html/2403.18589v1 . This results in much smaller files. It would be good if the next version of Canon DPP could also use this technique.
