Canon EOS R5 - HDMI out only in 1080p

Hello guys,

i have just one simple question: How do i get my R5 to output HDMI in more than 1080p? What specific settings are necessary to get 4k/50-60hz output via HDMI to my external monitor? The camera is set to video-mode, raw hdmi output is off, hdmi-hdr is off, recording is set to 4k/50. No matter what i do, the output is 1080p at any time. 😕

Try looking in the SET UP menus for HDMI resolution setting, it should be set to Auto to make the camera detect the resolution of the connected device. It can be set to 1080p too so there is no negotiation between camera and screen the camera only outputs 1080p and this may be faster than when the camera is set to auto.

I use British not American English, so my spellings may be a little different to yours

sanachrisbumbi,

Have you looked at the Wrench Settings, Tab# 4 under HDMI Info disp.? Would that help?

The cable could be the problem. The first cable I bought worked but the display was laggy and slow. It was a bit of a weird behavior I had never seen before. I eventually found a cable on Amazon.com that worked for what I needed. It was either the 3rd or 4th cable I tried. Last time I had an issue with an HDMI cable was trying to run 4k 120fps more than 30ft. This was less than 12 inches... Anyway... it was a fun misadventure that taught me the importance of cables.
