For Canon Europe, please visit this page: https://www.canon-europe.com/about_us/serial-number-checker/#serial

Tried that first it doesn't recognise the camera

For your EOS-1D X Mark II, the third character of the serial number indicates the region that the camera was originally shipped to.

  • 1 - Japan (?)
  • 2 - America / Canada (?)
  • 3 - Europe
  • 4 - China

I am not 100% sure that Japan is 1, it could be 2 and America could be 1. I am sure that 3 is Europe as that is the case for my own cameras, and I also know that 4 is China, based on some grey imports I've seen and know they have come from Hong Kong. I'm not sure if other regions like Australia, Asia or India have other numbers but it is possible.

Than you!

I have bought one 6D in Japan (#1), one 6D from Europe (#3), one M5 from Europe (#3) and one R6 from Europe (#3).

I also have one 7D, but third character Exif is 8.

I'm pretty sure that a different serial number structure was applied to EOS 7D and older cameras. I just checked back in my Lightroom catalogue and found an EOS 7D with the third character also an 8.
