VIXIA HF G50 connect and use as external webcam

Trying to connect and use my VIXIA HF G50 camcorder as my external camera on my 2015 MacBook Pro in order to stream a Zoom meeting. Connected HDMI cord from camcorder to MacBook. MacBook does not seep to even recognize it as even being there (not showing as camera choice in MacBook settings or Zoom settings).

Questions: 1) Can this be done ?  2) Do I need to install a cannon driver on my MacBook in order to recognize this camcorder.   (Any suggestions, procedures or guidance is very much appreciated)

Mac's can't take HDMI inputs. You would need some sort of HDMI capture card. Some Camcorders allow for USB live output that *may* let you use it, but it is pretty low quality.

I suggest that you go in another direction for a streaming camera.

I was able to do so with my HF G40 after jumping through a lot of hoops I got it to work.

I decided I didn't want to go through the process over and over again so I bought  Logitech C920 webcam. It's pnp, way less expensive than a mirrorless or DSLR and the video quality is more than adequate.

Honestly, it's a better way to go.
