Which Mirrorless and Lenses? - Questions about EOS R50

Rugglebum

Hi there, I'm looking to invest in a new mirrorless body. I am specifically looking at the R50 mainly because of the price. I am an amateur photographer looking to move beyond auto mode! I have two questions:

1) I am wondering if I can use my lenses from my Rebel 6 with this body or if I need to buy new lenses too?

2) Does anyone recommend a different body, close to the price point of the R50 that might be a better option (I'm not interested in creating video content)?

Thanks!

The camera you can afford is always better than the very best camera made that is out of your price range.

"...or if I need to buy new lenses too?"

Of course you need to buy the new RF lenses. But, yes, your old T6 ef-s lenses will work, poorly perhaps but they will work. You will need to buy an adapter for them. Check out the EOS R50 RF-S18-45mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM Lens.

BTW, don't buy on Amazon unless it is from Amazon itself. Never buy any of the great big package deals as they are total junk.

EOS 1DX and 1D Mk IV and less lenses then before!

Thank you so much! This is very helpful, I will purchase the R50 with the lens kits! And definitely won't be buying from Amazon. Only Canon direct for these items 🙂

A final question you might be able to help with. If I were looking for a lens to go with the R50 that was good for long range wildlife/nature photos (better than the lenses included in the kits) what would be my best option? Perhaps a lower cost option and a slightly higher cost option?
Thank you so much!

I suggest these two lenses as a good choice for a telephoto for the EOS R50

RF-S55-210mm F5-7.1 IS STM - $349

RF100-400mm F5.6-8 IS USM - $649

Both are compact and lightweight to match the EOS R50, with the RF 100-400mm able to capture more distant subjects and still make them large in the frame.

Amazing, thank you! I think I will purchase the R50 with the two lens kit, and then the RF 100-400 separately! Really appreciate your help!
