I have a Speedlite 580 EX II that I previously triggered remotely using the built in flash on my 90D.
I recently got the R8, and it doesn’t have a built in flash. What is my best option for triggering the flash remotely using the R8? Is there any way to use the 580 EX II remotely via an adapter, or do I need to get a new flash?
Thanks in advance for the help.

The 580EX II requires the AD-E1 adapter to maintain weather sealing when used ON camera. Look into the ST-E2 Optical speedlite transmitter. The 580EX II requires the older optical line of sight system for off camera flash. Not the newer RF off camera flash system.
