Canoscan LiDE 400 Mac Set Up error

I am attempting to set up my new scanner for my MacBook Air and have followed the instructions on the booklet, but an error message appears says "This software cannot be started as it is in use by another user." I have already tried restarting my computer and re-downloading the dmg from the Canon website. Please help!
