Looking for driver for Cannon MX310 (older printer) - is this possible, or is there a compatible driver that can be used?  Printer still works and now have a new laptop that I need to install the driver - but can't find the driver online. Thanks for any information shared.

If the new computer is a Mac you won't be able to use it. If it's a Windows computer you could try downloading the Windows 8.1 driver and see if it will work.

Hey Nick101!  Thanks for letting us know what Canon product you've got. The PIXMA MX310 is an older model which we have retired. While that means that Canon USA no longer offers direct support for it, your friends here in the Canon Community are welcome to offer suggestions!

You can also speak with a Canon Upgrade Program specialist to help you find a modern replacement that would meet your current needs at a discount. You can reach them weekdays and Saturdays at 1-866-443-8002.

Hope this helps!

From your reply as well as John Hoffman's,  like Nick I have a working MX310 that is working on my iMac with the latest version of OS.  Apple sends me a not that the driver will soon stop working.  You do not support making a driver for this WORKING printer.  You are forcing us to buy a new printer.  Can you tell me why I would want to purchase another Canon since you might not support it?   We purchased a good printer that was highly recommended and now it is toast due to support, not the printer's fault.  I have been researching printers but need to add the length of support to my search.  Canon may no longer be the best option.

The MX310 gets a 5 star rating but support is now a 1 star.

If your printer is currently working it will not stop working unless it fails (becoming a non-working printer) or until you upgrade your operating system. There is no timer out there that is programmed to stop devices from working.

John,  Thanks for the reply.  Yes I have been getting the warning for perhaps 4 months.  I can still use the printer and the scan functions as of last week.  Yes, I updated the OS today and seems OK still.  Are you able to identify what the problem is with the existing software and apple?  If I changed it from wired to my iMac to wireless, would the problem remain the same?

Bill

I get a similar warning. I think it is just a generic warning that some feature(s) of the current software don't meet some requirements and future macOS updates may not allow the software to function.

That happened a number of years ago when Apple upgraded to 64-bit system. The old 32-bit drivers wouldn't function.

You will just need to be cognizant of it and balance the benefit of a new OS against perhaps needing a new device.

What is the macOS you are currently running?

John,  have an iMac 24" M1 running 15.3.2 updated today.  While Money is tight, my wife tells me that the new printers will only go up in price, some very shortly with tariffs.  I usually do not go with the inexpensive types.  I was looking and the best recommended to work with my iMac and it is your Canon PIXMA TR8620a.  Amazon has it currently for $179.  I notice that your specialize in this model.   Doing comparisons to my MX310, it seems to be close.  I still have a couple of inks to be used on the MX310.  Having said this, what would you suggest?

Thanks.  Bill

I have a Pro-100 (since ~2014) that I use for my photo printing. I use the TR-8620a for household use and sometimes for small prints for non-critical photo use. I have had no problems with it. According to the nozzle check I printed more than 5600 pages.

Since it’s an older printer maybe the strategy would keep using it till you need to buy ink. Then look for a new printer.
