Pixma MG8120: Drivers unavailable for Windows 11

KatGat

I had a very nice printer, but the driver was no longer available, so I bought another printer. Now, the driver for it isn't available and it's not even that old. Does anyone have any suggestions, other than junking perfectly good printers?

Thanks for joining the conversation, KatGat!

So that the Community can help you better, we need to know exactly which Canon printer model you're using. That, and any other details you'd like to give will help the Community better understand your issue!

If this is a time-sensitive matter, click HERE search our knowledge base or find additional support options HERE.

Thanks and have a great day!

Hi Danny, thanks for the non-judgemental answer. I found a driver for my newer printer but would really like to find one for my Pixma MG8120. I use Windows 11.

Printer model and operating system, please.

You expect someone to answer this without saying what printers, computers, and operating systems you're talking about?  I have had many printers over the years, and while drivers may age and not be updated for newer operating systems, that takes years to happen, and it's rare that a driver becomes "no longer available."  Your question is impossible to answer.

Canon lists a Win 10 (64 bit) driver for your printer. Try it. Win 7/8/10 drivers commonly work in Windows 11.

Hmm, the laptop had the win10 driver, but maybe that was removed during the update to win11. I will try it, thanks.

Hi KatGat.  Thanks for letting us know what Canon product you've got. The Pixma MG8120 is an older model which we have retired. While that means that Canon USA no longer offers direct support for it, your friends here in the Canon Community are welcome to offer suggestions!

You can also speak with a Canon Upgrade Program specialist to help you score a modern replacement that would meet your current needs at a discount. You can reach them weekdays and Saturdays at 1-866-443-8002.

Hope this helps!

Hi KatGat,

Sorry about some of the short tempers here.  All the information I needed was in your post header.

I too have a Pixma MG8120 and have just gotten a new computer with Windows 11.  Just to see what would happen, I installed the Windows 10 drivers, and to my delight they seem to be working fine.  Hopefully they will for you too.

To get the older drivers, go to support for the MG8120 and when you're prompted for your version of Windows, choose 10 instead of 11.  I installed MG8100 series MP Driver Ver. 1.05.  There is also an XPS driver, which I did not install.

Hope this helps.

@crlinder.  Actually the post header was edited when the user provided the information the following day.

This printer is 14 years old.  It's great Windows 10 drivers are working under Windows 11.  Many don't keep cell phones, computers, cameras, TV's or cars for this amount of time.  There have been many technology improvements in printing as well.  Hardware cannot be supported in perpetuity.  After 14 years I think it's safe to say both of you have gotten your return on investment and then some.
