I acquired a MINT condition SX100. After inserting batteries the camera turns on, the lenses extends and th on and the lens extends and all lghts light up. However, the LCD screen remains dark. The wide / zoom function is hit or miss, sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. When activating the shutter, the camera DOES take photos. I was able to verify that fact by removing the SD card and viewing the photos on the computer.
Finally, this camera uses a small battery battery inserted on the side of the camera that supposedly controls date and time. If this is dead, would it cause the LCD screen to go dark?
I realize it is possible the camera is toast. Any input is appreciated.

You could try replacing the battery and if the rear screen is still not working, then the camera is defective and probably not worth repairing.
