Switch from Eos 30D to Eos 70D? Compatible?

I have an Eos 30D and am considering swapping for a 70D. Are the batteries, lenses from my 30D going to be compatible with a 70D?

Lenses, yes. Batteries, probably not.

The 30D, 40D, and 50D used the BP-511 battery.

Canon switched to the LP-E6 battery with the 60D, 70D, 80D etc.

Hmmmm..... OK, would the Eos 50D accept the lenses and batteries of my 30D?

Yes, the 50D uses the same battery and lenses as your 30D.

Comparing the 50D and 70D, looks like the 70D is a big step up and worth the minor hassel of new batteries. I have a couple battery chargers for the BP-511 batteries of the 30D. Will these work with the LP-E6 battery of the 70D?

Greetings,

No. You'll need a new charger with the different batteries. The benefits of the 70D over the 30D are pretty huge. 7 yrs newer. 8 vs 20MP, weather sealed body, touch screen and more.

Please be aware of this product advisory and check the serial number of the 70D you are considering:

Canon Support | Service Notice: EOS 70D: Error 70 or Error 80 | Canon U.S.A., Inc.

The free repair option for this recall ends at the end of this year (2022). Do not purchase a camera if its serial number falls within the range of identified devices. Of course if you could step up to the 80 or 90D, even better.
