Hi,

Welcome to the Canon Forums and thanks for your post!

To have a better understanding of your issue, please let everyone know the camera you are using.

Thanks and have a great day!

What camera?  What size memory card?  Don't use microSD cards with adapters.  Only use microSD cards in devices that use them directly, without an adapter.  Those adapters don't work very well.  Intermittent connections.

The red light means the camera is accessing the memory card.  An educated guess says your card is failing, needs to be re-formatted, or outright replaced.

Some camera settings and shooting scenarios can cause that to happen, too, but that's rare.  As a last resort, try resetting the camera.

I am not using anadaptor! The memory card I am using is transcend 8gb.

And I have a canon eos rebel t5

Are you in single shot or firing off a set of images in quick succession?

Try reformatting card in camera and see if problem reoccurs.

When the red red light clears does camera work OK?

single shot, I just reformated it and it is still doing the same. when the red light comes on the screen turns black and it takes about 15 seconds to take a picture and the picture is all funny colors.

Sounds like an electrical problem in camera. But, before that is the conclusion try a different SD card.

Okay, I have only had it since Monday.

Thanks!

If it's new just take it back and exchange it.
