Hello and thank you in advance for anyone who can help.
I have a Canon R3 and the AF start button/Smart controller tracking pad does not move the focus around anymore. I've tried everything I can think of. I've also searched online for suggestions and help. I saved the current settings on a card and reset the camera to factory settings and tried to use it again but still not working. Can anyone help? I have the latest software installed.

Greetings,
Do you have any accessories connected to the camera?
What lens is mounted, and have you tested with more than one lens?
If the behavior is the same, I'd contact Canon. 800-652-2666

No accessories. Ive tried different lenses. 70-200mm 2.8, 24-70mm 2.8, 16mm etc. Same deal. I'll try calling them. Thank you for your response.

I just figured out how to correct it. Go to the Orange colored menu and select option 5 for smart controller. Make sure it's set to on and that should solve your issue. I don't recall ever turning it off so maybe during a firmware update it defaulted it to off. Hopefully this helps

Have you used the multi-function lock? It can be used to lock the smart controller too. It's the icon second from the right in the list of lockable controls. The camera power switch has three positions; OFF, LOCK, ON. When it's in the lock position the multi-function lock is active.

Thanks. Tried that. Didn’t help. I think I’ll need to send it in. 😭
