EOS 5D Mark IV Questions on battery compatibility, extenders, humidity, filters & bundles

I am suffering from a lack of information on some products related to the 5D mk IV:

Canon site says it comes with either the LCE6E or the LCE6 battery charger. How do I tell which or specify which I want when purchasing? I would prefer the E6E that has a cord.

The new higher capacity battery LPE6NH is not mentioned anywhere in the manual. I would assume it is compatible, but assumptions have a habit of turning out to be wrong. Can the NH be used with the 5D mk IV?

I can find absolutely no information whatsoever about the close focus extenders EF 12 II and EF 25 II. How much extra magnification / how much narrower a field of view do they provide or how much closer to the subject do they allow the lens to get? They would be used with the 50mm f/1.4 or the 24-70 mm f/2.8 or the 24-105 f/4 lens.

The manuals specify a maximum humidity which is easily and frequently exceeded in many places. What are the consequences of that happening? What can someone do to protect the equipment if they visit Florida in the summer for example?

Canon's own protective filters are quite expensive, but price and quality are not always as closely related as they should be. I can't find any relevant reviews or comparisons. Is there somewhere they can be found?

Finally, is the 24-105 the only lens that Canon "bundles" with the camera at a slight discount? I'm thinking specifically about the 28-70 f/2.8. I haven't seen anything, but perhaps I'm not looking in the right places.

If you're looking into new cameras look into the RF Mount. The EF Mount is quickly being discontinued and further DSLR development has ended. The 5D Mark IV is compatible with the LP-E6NH battery. My copy came with the newer LP-E6NH battery instead of the LP-E6N battery. The camera also came with the LC-E6 charger you don't specify which one comes with it. The EF 24-105mm F/4L IS II USM lens is commonly bundled with Canon's EF Mount Full Frame cameras. I've never seen the EF 24-70mm F/2.8L USM lens bundled with any of Canon's EF Mount Full cameras.

Current Gear: EOS 5D Mark IV, EF 16-35mm F/2.8L USM, EF 24-70mm F/2.8L USM, EF 70-200mm F/2.8L IS III USM, EF 50mm F/1.8 STM, EF 85mm F/1.8 USM, 470EX-AI & 600EX II-RT

Retired Gear: EOS 40D

Thank you.

With the demise of photography magazines, I wasn't even aware of the RF mount.

Take a look into the EOS R lineup of cameras. They are the next generation of cameras. So of those cameras offer IBIS (In Body Image Stabilization). They are truly a step above DSLRs.

The LCE6E and LCE6 chargers are region specific. The US uses the LCE6 model where the pins to fit in the AC wall socket are part of the charger itself. In Europe and some other regions we have the LCE6E which has a standard 2-pin female IEC C8 socket as this allows countries to switch out the power cord to suit the plugs in their country, so UK cameras have a 3-pin UK power cord, German ones have a 2-pin European plug but both will have the LCE6E charger.

I have used an LP-E6NH battery in my EOS 5D Mark IV without a problem.

This information was often included on the lens specification pages but seems to be missing more recently. I have a copy of the old Canon EF Lens Work III book, it includes the following information about magnification with the Extension tubes, l also found that the EF 24-150mm f/4L IS II USM spec online at Canon UK has the extension tube specs listed too.

EF 50mm f/1.4 USM

  • EF 12 II :- 0.39x - 0.24x
  • EF 25 II :- 0.68x - 0.53x

EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM

  • EF 12 II :- 0.60x - 0.12x
  • EF 25 II :- 0.61x - 0.27x

EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM

  • EF 12 II :- 0.60x - 0.41x
  • EF 25 II :- 0.61x at 70mm, not compatible at wide-angle

EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM

  • EF 12 II :- 0.63x - 0.18x
  • EF 25 II :- 0.75x - 0.40x

I cannot find the information for the later EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM model.

Just the thing. Thank you.

Instead of extenders, your best bet is a true Macro lens.

As far as humidity, the camera is not rated for below freezing, either, but many folks take it in the snow. And I don't think we have ever had anyone complain that their camera stopped working at DisneyWorld!

The only real concern is taking it from a hot humid area to a cold, dry area - such as an air-conditioned room - this can cause a large buildup of condensation. The cautious/prudent/paranoid among us might put the camera in a ziplock with dessicant before going inside to give the camera a chance to cool down in a dry environment. But others don't bother.

At a place like DisneyWorld, it can actually be a problem since you might want to go inside and immediately take an image, but find the camera fogged up. There is not much you can do about that except take a lint free microfiber towel to wipe off the condensation and hope it is only on the outside.
