I use AUTO2 setting for my EVF and LV usage.
However, since I never press my eye to the VF, the camera switches to LV quite frequently. It's almost like I have to constantly be sure that the EVF sensor is covered. That can be quite frustrating while working and focusing on the subject.
I'd prefer the setting where EVF would be preferred with LV used only on demand and during playback/settings. Sadly, that option is not available in the settings. Exclusivity for either EVF or LV is not an option for me.
Any usable workaround for this? Thanks.

This solution might sound a bit strange but it works. Instead of using AUTO2, use Screen.
Then flip the LCD so it is folded away and not visible. The camera detects the screen is folded away, and switches to the EVF since that is all that it can do. However when you open the LCD the display will be switched on and the EVF deactivated until the LCD is folded away again.

Press and toggle the "info" button until you get to a blank LCD. This will allow image preview and menu options, including the "Q" button, but no traditional live view on the rear LCD. When you want to use the rear LCD as traditional LV, toggle it back on. If you find there are too many things to toggle through, go into the rear LCD setup and turn the displays you don't want off.
I prefer the info screen, so that's the one I leave active instead of the blank screen.

I'm not sure I follow you correctly. I don't have a blank screen, ever. It's always something on the LCD, either Q info or shooting variations.
Also the camera still switches from EVF to screen wherever I move my head slightly from the sensor. Even if there's only Q info shown.

Sorry, I assumed incorrectly and thought all of the R series cameras had the same options.
That's probably why Brian suggested flipping the screen... He knows things like this 🙂

Yeah no worries.
However, Brian's suggestion sadly is not an option. I could also just flip the screen off in Auto1 and use EVF. But flipping the screen is too much hassle and needless work.
There should be a better way IMO. I think this would be easily fixable if Canon would add another option via firmware, like - Use EVF primary and LV only when needed (like in DSLRs).
It kind of doesn't make sense that when you turn EVF-only mode, you cannot even playback the images on the LCD, even though the camera knows you have your LCD flipped on and you moved away from the eyepiece. The policy is too strict.
Maybe some customization with assigning LV/EVF buttons is possible. I will check that out now.

The workaround I found is assigning a dedicated button to switch between EVF/LV.
Auto1/2 should be disabled, so either LCD or EVF-only should be used. Then, pressing the assigned button gets you to either LCD or EVF. The downside is - you cannot playback your images on your LCD if EVF is active. You also lose one button to assign for something else.
Still, I think, it's worth it.

That is an acceptable solution, IMO. Agree, the downsides may not be worth it to some, but it comes down to priorities, as always 🙂
I use the rear LCD some when shooting macro, and it is pretty handy to toggle it on/off with the info button.

I ran into a similar issue with my R6ii. I finally decided to set it back to default and simply close the display.
