I am looking for a new lens for my rebel t5, I like the 50mm/1.8 but will it fit?

Yes, any EF lens, like the 50mm/1.8s will fit the rebel.

Be absolutely sure you get the new (last year) EF 50mm f/1.8 STM version, with the fast quiet STM focus motor and the more solid build quality and the lens element coatings. The old EF 50mm f/1.8 mark II was noisy and felt cheap and focused slowly.   The new one is the same low $120 new So don't take a "deal" for $20 bucks less and get the poorer lens.
