Can't access MP990 scanner

Using MacBook Pro, OS 10.11.1 and MP Navigator EX.  Have used scaner extensively in the past.  Now I get message 2.249.0 "The scanner is not available while in use by another application or user."  Unit is not in use for scanning, printing or copying...

printer cuts off border

I am using a canon mg2540. When printing a word document it cuts of the bottom border when printing. If I print to an HP laser jet it's fine. When I use an HP lazier jet it is fine

My printer keeps shutting off on its own. i have run troubleshooting and all of the normal problems/areas it says there are no issues, but it does detect problems. nothing will print because when I go to print the printer has turned off.

My Canon Pixma 5350 is giving error code C000

Almost every time I try to print something this error comes up.   It advises to turn the printer off and on again but this only clears the error for one more print command.   I'm using genuine Canon cartridges.   Any ideas?   It's driving me nuts.
