PIXMA iP7220 Printer Won't Recognize Magenta Cartridge

JHR

My printer won't recognize a magenta cartridge.  I keep getting the messtage that the cartridge is empty even after I have put a new one in. I tried all the fixes I've been told: turn off the machine, unplug the machine, clean the print head, replace the new cartridge with another new one, and etc. . .  I haven't had the printer all that long. Any suggestions?

Thanks for letting us know what Canon product you've got. The PIXMA iP7220 is an older model which we have retired. While that means that Canon USA no longer offers direct support for it, your friends here in the Canon Community are welcome to offer suggestions!

You can also speak with a Canon Upgrade Program specialist to help you score a modern replacement that would meet your current needs at a discount. You can reach them weekdays and Saturdays at 1-866-443-8002.

Hope this helps!

The problem WAS NOT SOLVED. No help was given. The only solution offered was to buy a new inkjet printer.  Well, that may be the solution I have to take. But at this point I am NOT INCLINED TO BUY A NEW CANNON, especially considering the support I received.

I've removed the solution flag.

This printer was released back in 2012. Do you have proof of purchase stating that you purchased it as a new product within the last year to indicate it's still within the warranty period? As far as we were aware, these units hadn't been sold as new for at least 7 years.

I believe I purchased it new it in 2021. Although that is outside the one year warranty period,, it is still too new to have totally stopped working.  I have had other inkjet printers that lasted for years. I had a multifunction HP inkjet printer that lasted for almost 10  years and the switch stopped working.  But I have never before had a printer that would not accept a cartridge.

It should accept a cartridge. Is it a Genuine Canon cartridge? One with the hologram on the packaging?

I would be willing to order one directly from you if you really think that would solve the issue.

I am concerned that another Cannon product may develop similar problems. I bought my Cannon printer new from a reputable retailer not that long ago.  I have read online reviews that Cannon does not support its products. If I upgrade,  what assurances can you give me that Cannon will support the purchase.

Are you saying your products only last a year?
