PIXMA MG6200 Printer working, scanner not.

I bought a Canon Pixma printer/scanner MG6200 years ago and installed it on my IMAC.  My IMAC died in 2020 and I bought a Macbook Air.  The printer works fine, but I've never been able to scan.  If I try, I get a message that says, "set the PC to start scanning."  The printer shows in "printers/scanners" in my system preferences.  I know the machine has been retired, but it still prints.  Is there a way to get it to scan?

Can you try the Preview application to see if it would work?

From its "File" menu, see if there's a menu item such as "Import from (Canon make/model here)..."

From the Preview icon on the taskbar, there is nothing about importing.  From the File menu, there is an option to scan from my iPhone, but not from a scanner.

I was here a few days ago because I was having problems getting my Pixma all-in-one MG6220 to scan.

It scanned in the past when I owned an IMAC.  I have a Macbook Air now and I cannot scan.

I installed the IJ Utility and the computer is looked up to LAN but when I attempt to scan I get the message above.

Can anyone help?  This seems to be a very common issue with Canon printers.

Hi, SuzanneBo, and thanks for letting us know what Canon product you've got. The PIXMA MG6220 is an older model which we have retired. While that means that Canon USA no longer offers direct support for it, your friends here in the Canon Community are welcome to offer suggestions!

You can also speak with a Canon Upgrade Program specialist to help you score a modern replacement that would meet your current needs at a discount. You can reach them weekdays and Saturdays at 1-866-443-8002.

Hope this helps!
