G7020 duplex paper jams on auto align

Brand new G7020 jams on duplex printing, when it sucks the paper back in after printing the first side. I was just trying to run the print head alignment as part of initial setup, and three times in  a row, it printed both sides of the first sheet successfully, and the front of the second sheet, but utterly mangled the second sheet when sucking it back in to print the second side.  Duplex printing a two page document, it dog-eared a corner (about a 1" x 3" triangle) when it pulled the paper back in but at least didn't jam.

Given that it's a brand new printer - taken out of the box today - I'm inclined to seek warranty replacement, but any advice before I call Canon on Monday?

Canon support had me:

  • turn it off & unplug
  • remove the paper tray and check for obstruction (nothing)
  • open the rear paper tray
  • remove the back cover and the "transport unit" inside, check for obstruction (nothing)
  • reassemble, turn back on
  • print a duplex document, it jammed

They shipped a replacement this morning, with a label to return the bad one.
