Code 5011

libertoe

My printer suddenly keeps displaying a code 5011, and I haven't used it in at least a week or so and it was fine last I checked. There was a debit card left in it from a previous scanning use, I took it out, tried again, didn't work. Then I went down a rabbit hole of threads and pages of people solving the issue. I have a TS8220, so every thread listing the solution of "press the cancel and power button at the same time" doesn't apply to me. I've unplugged it, replugged it, turned it on and off, left it unplugged for 5 minutes, replugged, tried again, nothing; I've left the scanning cover open whilst turning it on, closing it, only to see the same message. I tried cleaning the entire cord that goes into the printer and the wall, and I've even tried holding the printer like a small infant and comforting it after yelling at it. There's nothing inside the printer, no jam at all and the ink cartridge is way on the right side under other hardware that makes it impossible to take out the ink cartridge and put it back in without absolutely destroying it. I've had this printer for almost two years now, and it's been very reliable and easy to use; as to why I'm providing just about every piece of information I have so I can fix this without servicing it, so I'd hate to be told I have to. Please help me, taking five college courses is enough stress as it is.

Hi libertoe,

A paper jam can cause this to occur.  Please follow the steps on this page to check for foreign objects/jammed paper:

https://ij.manual.canon/ij/webmanual/ErrorCode/TS8200%20series/EN/ERR/err_contents0200.html

Also, please try cleaning the encoder/timing strip:

If the 5011 error persists, your PIXMA TS8220 would require service.  If your PIXMA TS8220 was purchased within the past year, it is in warranty.  To obtain your service options, please contact our support group using the following link:

https://mycanon.usa.canon.com

If your PIXMA TS8220 is greater than a year old, it is out of warranty.  You are eligible for Canon's Upgrade Program. This is for out of warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service, or for some reason are incompatible with a new or upgraded system. This option allows you a one-time opportunity to purchase a replacement product, discounted from the list price.

To help you get up and running quickly, we also offer free standard shipping (if the order is completed by 12:30PM ET). If you would like to take part in this option, please call our Sales Department at (866) 443-8002 seven days a week. Let them know you have been working with technical support and the Canon Upgrade Program was offered.
