What happens when you use live view instead of recording mode? Do you get video on the HDMI out and does it shut off at 30 minutes?

I've heard Midwest Camera Repair repairs some older cameras. Might be worth looking into.

I don't know the screw size, but was wondering if turning the camera upside down would cause the plate to fall towards the top of the camera and allow the screw to engage the plate.

Did you try another full-size SD card?

Try removing the SD card and see if it responds. Try a new SD card. Try another lens.
