Use with Wi-Fi

spetho2001
Enthusiast

I just purchased a new Canon printer Pixma MG3022. I hooked it up to my computer with a USB cable. Can I use it with WiFi also? Even while hooked up with the USB cable?

How do I hook it up to WiFi?

I have a Google Chromebook computer which as you know does not have an operating system. The Google Chrome operating system for the computer is on the CLOUD. You can not print from the Chromebook. You have to use CLOUD printing. Will I be able to hook up my printer with the USB cable (which I have done) and also use it with WiFi and also do CLOUD printing?

Thank you,

     TomS

Hi spetho2001,

To use your PIXMA MG3022 with your Chromebook, it must be st up for wireless use first.  To connect your PIXMA MG3022 to your wireless network, another device is needed, such as a phone, tablet or computer.

If you set up your PIXMA MG3022 for wireless use with your Windows 7 computer, you can then set up your PIXMA MG3022 for use with Google Cloud Print, which your Chromebook uses to print.

To do this, please follow these steps:

1. Click on the Windows Start button in the lower left hand corner.

2. Click on Control Panel.

3. Under Programs, click on Uninstall a Program.

4. Click on the Canon MG3000 MP Driver and then click Uninstall at the top. If you do not see this, skip to step 6.

5. Follow the prompts to uninstall the driver.

6. Click on the Canon IJ Network Tool and the click Uninstall at the top. If you do not see this, skip to step 8.

7. Follow the prompts to uninstall the network tool.

8. Click on the Canon IJ Network Scan Utility and then click Uninstall at the top. If you do not see this, skip to the next section, "reinstalling your PIXMA MG3022".

9. Follow the prompts to uninstall the scan utility.

10. Restart the computer once complete.

To reinstall your PIXMA MG3022, please follow these steps when the computer restarts:

1. Turn your PIXMA MG3022 on.

2. Press the WiFi button on your PIXMA MG3022 until the WiFi light blinks.

3. Press the Color button.

4. Hold the WiFi button down until the Network light is lit.

4. Press the Color button. The WiFi light should be blinking now.

Next, please download the latest driver for your PIXMA MG3022:

1. Visit Canon's website at: http://usa.canon.com/support

2. Type PIXMA MG3022 in the "Enter a Model" box and click GO.

3. Click on the Drivers & Downloads tab then click the Select button next to the MG3000 series MP Drivers.

4. Click the Download button.

5. If a Save dialog box appears, click Save.

6. Once the download is complete, open your Downloads folder.

7. Double click [mp68-win-mg3000-1_02-ea34_2.exe]. Files will extract.

Follow the prompts and the installation will complete.

Hi TomS,

You can use your PIXMA MG3022 with a USB cable and wirelessly as well.

Before using your PIXMA MG3022 with your Chromebook, it must be connected to your wireless network. The easiest way to do this is to install the Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY app on your mobile phone or tablet. Please follow the steps in these videos to do this:

(iPad or iPhone) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8e1ZLW4OZ4

(Android device) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkMeRmjHcw0

Once set up on your phone or tablet, you will be able to use your PIXMA MG3022 with your Chromebook following the steps in this Knowledgebase Article available from Canon's web site:

Patrick,

I don't have a phone or tablet. I have a Google Chromebook which is a laptop computer with no operating system on the computer. The operating system is on the cloud. the Google Cloud. You can not install anything on the computer itself and you can not install APPs on the computer or on the operating system/browser that is on the cloud unless you go through Google. You can not print from the computer. You have to CLOUD print. ????

I also have a Windows 7 SP 1 with Internet Explorer 11 desk top that is my primary computer. The new Canon Pixma MG3022 is hooked up with a USB cable right now as I was not too sure of what I was doing trying to hook it up to use wi-fi.

I was not sure if I could use it both ways. With the USB and also by cloud printing from my Chromebook, which I assume I need to have it working with wi-fi????

Thank you,

     TomS

Thank you. WOW that is a lot of information. I need to study it when I get a chance and see if I really want to do that. Will I be able to use the printer with the USB cable also?

Thank you,

     TomS

Patrick,

The printer is hooked up with the USB cable now and working fine. Not with wi-fi. I read all your instructions. At what point do I disconnect the printer by taking the USB cable OUT?

Also there is a lot of other Canon stuff installed besides the stuff you said to uninstall. What am I supposed to do with that stuff? Leave it installed? See screen shot please

Thank you, TomS

What about the USB cable?

Hi spetho2001,

The USB cable and wireless connection can be used independently, and the USB cable can be disconnected at any time without affecting the wireless setup.
