PIXMA MG5220 Driver install causing network instability

DrInfested

Hi, I am trying to print to my MG5220 printer, and I'm having some serious problems.

Basically, I setup my printer and connected it to my wi-fi network, then I installed the drivers on my computer, restarted, and attempted to add the printer. The printer search was unable to find the printer on the network, and after canceling my 2nd search, my connection became extremely unreliable. I couldn't reload websites, I couldn't connect to anything, and I couldn't see my network. Restarting did nothing, disconnecting all other devices did nothing. The only thing that fixed the problem was to uninstall the Canon drivers and restart the computer.

Here's the weird thing, this happens for ALL the printers in my house, on my computer, and my brother's computer. I have a PIXMA MX870 a PIXMA MX882, and a PIXMA MG5220. These computers work fine on the Powerbook and iMacs I have, but not on my Windows 7 64bit computers.

Every single time I try to install the drivers for my Canon printers, it completely destabalized my internet connection and my computer until I uninstall the drivers.

Why is this happening, and what can I do to fix it?

Hi Drinfested,

The Windows Firewall could cause this to occur.  To temporarily disable the Windows Firewall, please follow these steps:

 1.  Click on Start and then Control Panel.

 2.  Click on Security Center and then Windows Firewall.

 3.  Select OFF and then click OK.

Once set, please attempt to print.  If the issue persists, please try this:

 1.  Select [Setup] from the HOME screen on your PIXMA MG5220.

 2.  Press the right arrow key to select Device Settings and press OK.

 3.  Press the down arrow key to select LAN Settings and press OK.

 4.  Press the down arrow key to select Confirm LAN settings and press OK.

 5.  Press the arrow key to select WLAN Setting list and press ok.

The IP address will be in this list, please copy the address down on a piece of paper.  On the computer, please follow these steps:

 1.  Click on Start and then Control Panel.

 2.  Click on Printers.

 3.  Right click the PIXMA MG5220 and left click on Properties.

 4.  Click on the Ports tab.

 5.  Click the Add Port button.

 6.  Choose Standard TCP/IP Port.

 7.  Click New Port.

 8.  In the wizard, click Next and then type the IP address of your printer in the box.

 9.  Click Next.

10.  Click Finish.

11.  The checkmark should be next to the port that we just created.  If not, please checkmark it.

12.  Click Apply and OK.

The issue should be resolved.  If it is not, then we should try reinstalling the software.  To perform the uninstall, please have the PIXMA MG5220's CDROM in the CDROM drive and then follow these steps:
