Connect wired PC to printer on wireless LAN

CanonUser1971

I would like to connect my PC running Windows XP to my Pixma MX452 printer via my LAN. The PC is connected through a wired connection to the same router to which the MX452 is connected wirelessly. Both connections are fine. I can print wirelessly from other devices on the wireless network. I can also connect to the printer Network Configuration app from the PC via a web browser by entering the IP address of the printer, but I can't find it in the Windows XP 'Add a printer' process. Is this even possible?

Hi CanonUser1971,

You can install the drivers for the printer from the Canon USA website on your Windows XP computer to connect it your PIXMA MX452.  When installing the drivers, please ensure that any antivirus for firewall software that is on your computer is temporarily disabled, as these programs can sometimes block the printer from being detected on the network. Once the printer is detected successfully, the protection software can be re-enabled.

Please click here to go to the Drivers and Software page for the PIXMA MX452. Once on the initial download page for your model, please do the following:

1. Verify that the operating system detected in the "OPERATING SYSTEM" drop-down menu is correct, and if it is not, please click the drop-down menu to select your operating system.

2. Next, please click on the red arrow next to the "RECOMMENDED DOWNLOADS" section and click the MINI MASTER SETUP file. When you do, a red DOWNLOAD button will appear. Please click on the checkbox below the DOWNLOAD button, then click the red DOWNLOAD button to begin the download. The time for the download process may vary depending on the speed of your Internet connection and the size of the file being downloaded.

Once you have downloaded the Mini Master Setup file, please double-click on the file and follow the prompts to install the printer on your computer.

Hope this helps!

This works. Temporarily disabling the firewall is the key.
