Canon 580EX2, E-TTL shifts to TTL and it fires at full power

I have 2 Canon 580 EX2 speedlights. A few weeks back, both started over-exposing at the same event. On inspection, their LCDs showed TTL instead of E-TTL. I changed the rechargeable batteries with fully charged ones but no betterment. Then, I used non-rechargeable Energizers and they started working fine. But, the same problem arose last night and even after changing batteries, the speedlights are behaving same, firing at full instead of programmed E-TTL. I can fire them at Manual (Full or any derivative) but not in E-TTL. I have cleaned the contacts of flashes and cameras, tried 4-5 different camera bodies, but same result. Can anybody Help?

Sorry for late reply. The EXII has a known problem with a loose foot connection. If the flash breaks contact while mounted in the camera hot show it will switch to TTL. I had a EXII and it never happened once so it varies copy to copy.

Canon came up with a reftrofit for the base. Check out the pointy pins.

We can certainly understand how this is frustrating and that you want to have this fixed.  However, we do not recommend that you attempt to repair this flash yourself.  If you decided that you wanted to have this unit repaired, you would need to contact Canon Service in your area.
