Anyone getting ransomware on their .cr2's? I was using DPP Batch processing

Hi, This just blew me away. I hope this has not happened to any of my pro friends, as so far, I have found no solution. Fortunately, I have my Raws on my card, and I will download them into another computer, unless they also got tagged. I don't see how that would happen.I have tried different apps, still blocked. Have not gotten a ransom note..Anyone had this happen to them? How did you fix it?

I think we need more details. How exactly did you see this ransomeware? Do you still have the files on the card?

Thanks for asking. My wife and I use the same laptop (win 8.1) on a trip. I loaded the day's raws.looked at them, chose the ones I wanted to batch to tiff's, and gave the command in Dpp. I got an error message that stopped the process. So, I tried to convert and save, got an error message from bitdefender that I had ransomeware, and to cease the process. Then my wife told me when she was surfing, she had an error message when she tried a link, and she ignored it. I have tried loading a few images from the card on another computer and the thumbnails have a ? at the top of the image, and will not do anything. My virus people gave me a special ransomeware download, and asked me to send a log that was created to them for analysis. I called them, and the person said I was out of luck, to wait for their specialists to reaserch this and get back to me in 24 hours. On my laptop, it seems all the other photo files,(.jpg & tiff's) so far, have not been touched, but ALL the .CR2's in the laptop are infected. I have read something about an app that will bring up, (after the virus is gone) "shadow copies". So, if you can give me any advice on how to save my images, I am open for suggestions, and will consider using them after myu Bitdefender people get back with me,

What software are you using to view your RAWS?

I think you will have to burn the system down and resort to your backup.

Thanks for your input,

Digital Photo Pro, Zoom Browser. Only when I try to convert in DPP or Photomatix, do I get the error. I can now use ACDsee and properly convert without any problem. I think they hooked the virus to these two apps.

I would download DPP from Canon and re-install.

Now I'm confused. Are your RAW files themselves getting corrupted, or just the resulting JPEGs when you do a convert & save?

Hi, Bob,

When I try to process my Raws in Digital Photo Pro to whatever(jpegs or tiffs) the process starts, the progress line starts, and 3/4 of the way it stops, and says an error has occurred"encoding failed". I formatted my card took some new Raws, loaded them, and tried to process them, same error. However, in ACDsee 9.0 trial, I could take the same Raws, and convert or save as .jpgs or tiffs. The other software that I was using was Photomatix, and it would not let me process Raws or Jpegs.

Software, right? What do you think?
