I have a Canon XHA1. It has a mini DV tape and I am trying to transfer the DV to my laptop to make a flash drive or CD. It also comes with a place for a card. Will I be able to transfer the mini DV tape to a scan disk card? Please help.

The card slot on the XAa1 is only for saving still images. You need to export video via the Firewire port in real time. An older Mac with Final Cut Pro 7 or older PC with period editing package (Premier /Avid) should do it.

Greetings,
Unless you have a large number of videos to transfer or plan on doing this regularly, a more cost effective solution is to send your tape(s) to a transfer service. If you have to buy hardware, software and account for the time spent, the service is probably more economical. It's already getting harder and harder to find older hardware and software that still imports mini-dv.
