XF705 focus distance reading

On Manual mode our cameras manually adjust to a range between 0.5 and  29 metres and then the next incriment is to go to infinity?

Is this right?

See page 45 of the User Manual.  When using manual focus and the focus is currently beyond the inifinity point, ∞ will be displayed.

That's not what I am explaining though.

If an object is 45 metres away I should not need to use infinity

Most cameras have a range between 0 -100 metres. Then it hits infinity which is fine.

I don't have all the details at hand, but wouldn't the point be relative to factors such as focal length?  Perhaps the hyperfocal distance as well?

No it wouldn't.
