Canon C70 audio hiss on Mic terminal

peterblach

I've had the Canon C70 for a year and when ever I plug in a 3.5 mini jack in the mic terminal I instantly get a hiss. This is made worse when I plug in a Røde Go2 when the hiss becomes worse. I have tried changing the mini jack but I can't get rid of this. Is there a setting I'm missing? I don't get any hiss on INPUT from XLR microphones. I googles this and apparently other people has experienced the same.

Greetings peterblach,

I understand that this hiss sound issue occurs when using the 3.5mm microphone terminal and not when using an XLR microphone. We would suggest to please check the audio levels and to adjust the audio recording level manually, if necessary, when hearing a hissing sound when using an external microphone.

Please check to ensure that the microphone is securely connected to the microphone terminal since a loose connection may introduce interference.

If possible, test the EOS C70 camera with a different microphone to see if the hissing sound persists.

In case the camera is still producing the hissing sound, then the next step is to suggest on sending the EOS C70 camera to our facility for repair. You may begin the repair process by logging into your My Canon Account form our website.

Thank, this did not resolve the problem. I get the hiss as soon as I plug in the 3.5 mini jack, even without any microphone and I have of cause tried with different cables so that's not the issue. I'm trying to work out if this is an issue with the C70 camera of if it's just a problem for me. My camera is 2 years old so out of warranty and I can't live without my camera for a month whilst it being repaired at the moment so I'm not sure where to go from here.
