PSP 2.2.3 with older 1.xx firmware on Pro 100-- won't print

I have an older Pro-100 with Firmware version 1.04x (I tried upgrading firmware to latest version, but it seems my older version is not able/necessary to upgrade to the latest version).

I downloaded PSP latest version 2.2.3 and attempted to make a Pattern print from PSP. I got one successful pattern print after two tries, but since then, it will only print the adjustment values at the bottom of each thumbnail, but not the images themselves. Then I tried printing an image from PSP (PRO setting). The paper rapidly ran through and came out blank. Same on successive tries.

Is it possible my earlier firmware does not play nice with the latest PSP version? Any other ideas?

A recent update to W10 messed up print with PSP using the XPS version driver; it spits out a blank paper.

Using the regular driver works properly (at least for me).
