PIXMA PRO-100: Print only text pages in black but uses all colors

Hi, I have what may sound like a really naive question...I print only text pages in black only. BUT...all of the other colors get used up somehow.  Why is that?  This has been an aggravating issue for ears.  I hate buying ink that I never use but gets used somehow.  Thank you for any explanation that makes sense.

It’s a good question. It has been asked by others. Some printers have a black pigment ink that is used when printing text. The Pro-100 doesn’t; it only has the eight dye inks. The black dye ink isn't pure black. The other inks are used to get pure black.

Hi, Thank you for clarifying that issue.  So...how do I just use the black ink instead of all of the colors?  Thank you for the information.

Thank you.  It figures, I would use the wrong printer for what I do most of the time.  I seldom do picture printing any more.  Oh well, buyer beware.  Thanks again!

So,  when I go to Properties, Additional Features and click on Black and White Photo Print it still uses up color ink?

If so Does it really need to use all colors??
