I find this printer does beautifully with 13x19" paper or smaller fed through the top feed tray.
Unfortunately, I have a large project where I have to print 13x38" paper through the manual feed tray (you cannot print that size through the top tray). The paper is well within the guidelines for the printer, so it is not a paper type issue, nor is it anything to do with the paper edge.
Sometimes it feeds through OK, although it always seems to need a little help. Many times, however, the rollers just don't seem to catch the paper and then it seems to get stuck in this endless error loop where it tells me that it can't print because there is paper in the feed, so I fix that and then it tells me it can't print because there is no paper in the feed. It would be funny if it wasn't so frustrating. Sometimes it feeds the paper through all the way with no printing. Sometimes it starts printing, then stops after an inch, ruining the piece of expensive photo paper. Sometimes, I suspect because it gets bored with those two messages, I get a paper jam message when there obviously is no jam.
I have noticed that the guides are finicky. I line up the paper, set the guides, then when it starts to feed, the guides snap open, then close, then open again, and it won't take the paper.
I have been on the phone to Canon support a few times with this problem. They are usually helpful, but not with this issue. I believe that the mechanics of the manual feed tray are not designed well to take larger paper. Maybe they just aren't strong enough to pull through a long piece of paper, but they are sensitive and finicky, so if there is anything slightly awry with the way it feeds, it causes problems.
If anyone has any tricks for feeding large paper in the manual tray, please let me know!
Also, could someone tell me what the correct name of the Pro-300 printer is? When I call and they ask or try to type it into the associated products to the right on this page, I have used variations on the name (Imagegrafpro PRO-300, Imagegraf Pro-300, etc) and it always can't find it. Would love to know what I'm supposed to say or type.
