PIXMA TR8520 USB port option?

Hi, I just bought a PIXMA TR8520 and I want to make sure that I have the option to print if the internet is not on before I unpack and set the machine up.  I read online that there is an option and that a cord comes with the machine. Obviously that was wrong.  I do see there is a port can be used for a USB cord -the same as on my old printer.  Is there anything special I need to do with instructions to print wirelessly, or is it pretty much plug and play like a simple wireless printer?  Thank you for any help with this.  I'm tired of everything needing to be some complex and really want the option to just plug the cord in for a dependable connection.  Thank you!
