PIXMA MX492 Waste Ink Absorber

InNeedOfHelp

I am beyond frustrated with this printer and with Canon. There is no support past a year and there is no documentation to help with this issue.

Does anyone know how to clean the Waste Ink Absorber pads in a PIXMA MX492?  I have been struggling to find this answer for days now.

Many thanks to anyone that can help.

Hi InNeedOfHelp,

The waste ink absorber is a part inside of your printer that absorbs excess ink used in the cleaning and printing operations.  Printing can be performed until the waste ink absorber becomes full.  When the message changes to indicate that the waste ink absorber is full, printing cannot be performed and the printer would need to be serviced.

We are aware that there are many "do-it-yourself" Web sites that offer instructions for making this repair.  Replacing the ink absorber is a complicated and potentially messy procedure.  Even if the ink absorber is successfully changed, the ink absorber counter must be reset and the reset utility that is necessary to reset this counter is not available to the general public.

You are eligible for Canon's Upgrade Program. This is for out of warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service, or for some reason are incompatible with a new or upgraded system. This option allows you a one-time opportunity to purchase a replacement product, discounted from the list price.

To help you get up and running quickly, we also offer free standard shipping (if the order is completed by 12:30PM ET). If you would like to take part in this option, please call our Sales Department at (866) 443-8002 seven days a week, 8am to Midnight. Let them know you have been working with technical support and the Canon Upgrade Program was offered.

Would the CarePAK plus extended warranty cover this issue? Just bought a new Canon printer and I am considering whether to purchase the plan.

Hi PHL1365,

This issue would be covered., if the plan was purchased for an eligible printer.
