Re: MX922 printing double lines, double characters here and there

I too have had the same problem (described by many) of printing double characters.  I have three MX922 printers and love them, except for this problem.  Two of them print double characters and one prints perfectly.

The problem has been very well described by Echobot on another thread.  Here's a link to the thread:

https://community.usa.canon.com/t5/Personal-Printers/My-printer-started-printing-quot-shadow-double-...

Like others have suggested, I can change the black font to a colored font, and the problem goes away.  I can also tell the printer that I am using matte paper then print with black and the problem goes away.

I called Canon tech support this afternoon and spent about an hour on the phone (most of it on hold).  "Quinton," told me that my print head was warped.  I asked him why I could print in color or with "matte paper" and the problem went away.  He put me on hold for another 15 minutes doing some research.  When he came back he told me that when you use colors, the print head uses different nozzles and when you use "matte paper", the print head uses the small black tank nozzles vs. the large black tank nozzles.

So I swapped the print head from my good printer to one that is printing double characters.  Sure enough, the problem followed the print head.  My good printer started printing double, and one of my bad printers started printing perfectly.  Then I swapped the print head back, and the problem again followed the print head.  I guess Canon tech support is correct.  The double characters are caused by the nozzles used by the large black tank being warped (bad print head).

The posts I have read seem to indicate this problem starts after a year or two -- so I guess that is the life of Canon print heads. The solution appears to be to buy a new print head.  Print heads cost more than a new printer (which is REALLY sad).  So it all depends on how much you like your existing printer vs. the printers Canon (and others) are now offering.

Re: MX922 printing double lines, double characters here and there

Quick update on my last post.  I did buy a new Canon print head and it definitely fixed the problem.  No more double-line printing!

Re: MX922 printing double lines, double characters here and there

The PGBK was printing "double" on my Canon MX922 printer,  The rest of the colors were fine.  Cleaning the encoder did not work.  I cleaned the print head, but that didn't work either. Then I replaced the print head (QY6-0086), with a new one, and it fixed the problem.  New print head cost $70 from ebay https://www.ebay.com/itm/Brand-New-PrintHead-For-MX922-MX725-MX722-IX6820-MX727-MX925-QY6-0086/28290...

Re: MX922 printing double lines, double characters here and there

I have this exact same issue on PGBK lines only.  Wasted time on cleaning and re-aligning the heads.  Glad I found this thread, so sound like a new print head is needed.  This will be the third Canon I'll toss.  Epson not so much better b/c I tossed 2 of them already. Smiley Sad

MG1760 printing double lines, double characters ... but only black.... Possible solution for you!!!

Hi all... OK so I have the same issue with PIXMA MG1760. Its about 2.5 years old and has started to print the characters with double effect on about every 3rd or 4th line of text... but only with black text. ie if you have coloured text on the same page it's fine... but the Black is not.

BUT I found a work around... that works for me with the Pixma MG 7160.

When you go to print something (eg Word doc), go the "Quality and Media" setting and change "Plain Paper" to "Other Papers... High Resolution Paper" and it works beautifully.

However... it takes longer to print.

I don't use our printer that much so I'll put up with the slower speed... and saves me buying yet another bloody printer atm.

Cheers all.

Re: MX922 printing double lines, double characters here and there

I ahve the same MX922 issue. Paper selection does resolve it but is a "work around" fix. I don't believe the printer head warping theory as it would require warping overnight to be not present one day and then fully present and stable the next and that is highly improbable. Canon owes us a full and correct explanation and a fix that works permanently. Canon are you listening?

So the high resolution paper work around works, but does that mean it uses the BK ink and not the PGBK ink?

Re: MX922 printing double lines, double characters here and there

I have perfromerd additional testing on my MX922 and have discovered on my printer the only setting that prints double characters is Stendard.with plain paper. Business, Matte paper, Other photo paper all correct the problem. And again I doubt the warping theory as mine went bad over night in moderrate temperature too cold for thermoelastic effects to take place. Canon are you interested in solving this problem once and for all?
