MX892 fails to be recognized by USB in Windows 8.1 and OS X Mavericks

This seems odd because the USB cable is 2.0 and brand new. The printer will work just fine with the wireless network connection in OS X and worked fine with wireless in Windows 8.1 before the wireless card in that desktop failed. Windows detects it as a USB device but can't identify it.

Any ideas what to do on this problem?

Hi plus_p_plus,

I would like to have you check in the Apple System Profiler on your Mac, and the Device Manager in Windows to see how the printer is being seen by your computers.  To do this, please follow the steps below:

From your Mac:

1. Open the System Information or System Profiler app from the Utilities folder of your Applications folder.

2. Under the Hardware section on the left, click on the USB option.  What items are listed in the USB section?

From Windows:

1. On your keyboard, hold the Windows key and press " X ".

2. Click CONTROL PANEL.

3. Select HARDWARE AND SOUND.

4. In the window that opens, select DEVICE MANAGER from the Devices and Printers section.

5. In the Device Manager window, scroll down to near the bottom of the window and find the section named 'UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CONTROLLERS'.

6. If that area is not expanded already, please double-click on 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' to expand the area.

7. Examine the contents listed; do you see a listing for 'USB PRINTING SUPPORT'?

7-1. If so, does 'USB Printing Support' have an exclamation mark, question mark, or other symbol next to it?

7-2. If not, then check to see if there is anything listed under a section above named 'OTHER DEVICES' or 'UNKNOWN DEVICES'. If there is, what items are listed there?

We look forward to hearing from you!

On the Mac, there are three items. USB Bus shows the internal keyboard/Trackpadand IR Receiver. USB Bus shows Bluetooth USB Host Controller. USB Hi-Speed Bus shows Built-in iSight.

On the PC, under UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CONTROLLERS the item for the printer shows Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) if the printer is actually connected via the USB cable, but nothing if it's not connected. No item for USB Printing Support. No other items in Device Manager with symbols for problem devices. The drivers and other software for the printer have been removed and installed again but still the problem continues.  What should I do next?    Thank You.
