MP970 scan button does not work

I have installed a new computer and connected my Canon MP970. It prints fine. But the printer's scan button does not work. The screen says "Processing" for a few seconds, then returns home. No scan. How to fix this?

Hi johnaikerman,

The PIXMA MP970 is not compatible with the Windows 10 x64 operating system and there are no plans to develop a driver for the printer that will make it compatible.

As a work around, the Windows 7 or Windows 8 drivers should function in the Windows 10 environment with some limitations which are currently unknown to Canon.  You may try to download the MP Drivers and the software for Windows 8, which may help you to complete the scan.

To install the driver, please click here to access our Drivers and Downloads website, change the Operating System to Windows 8.1 (x64). Download and install the MP970 series Mini Master Setup option in the Drivers section.

If you are still unable to scan, you would qualify for the Canon Upgrade Program. This program allows you the opportunity to purchase a replacement product discounted from the list price. Canon will also include free ground shipping with your purchase.

If you would like to take advantage of this offer, please call our Sales Department at (866) 443-8002 seven days a week, 8 AM to midnight EST. Let them know you have been working with email technical support and that the Canon Upgrade Program was offered.

Bummer. I like this printer and don't want to replace it.
