MG 5720 not recognizing A4 paper

gregs1

My father has a model MG5720 printer.  Recently performed printer head alignment and cleaning after getting error message telling him to put A4 paper in when that is the type paper he was using.  After aliignment and cleaning worked fine for a day.  Today back to original error message.  Has gone through alignment and cleaning again several times since, same issue.  Error message says the paper he is using is not the same as what's on the register, but he is using A4 paper and that's the only type he's used on this printer.  Any suggestions on what else we can try?  Thanks!

Greetings,

Is this for cloud print?  What is being printed and from what application?  Is the paper size being selected in the Canon print driver or elsewhere?

When you say the error states "not the same as whats on the register", where is this displaying?   It sounds like you are describing a situation with the selected paper size not matching what the printer is expecting.

Rick, it's not for cloud print.  I'm not sure what application(s) they are printing from.  My father is 93 years old and his printing demand is small, so maybe just some Word or .pdf document.

You're correct, he says the message says "the paper is not the same as the register", so I believe it's a situation with the selected paper not matching what the printer is expecting.  Again, he only uses A4 paper.

Thanks for your help.

Hi gregs1,

Please try turning off paper matching on the PIXMA MG5720:

 1.  Press the HOME button.

 2.  Press the up arrow 1 time.

 3.  Press the right function button under Setup (the screwdriver and wrench icon).

 4.  Press the right arrow to select Device settings and press OK.

 5.  Use the down arrow to select Cassette settings and press OK.

 6.  Use the down arrow to select Detect paper setting mismatch and press OK.

 7.  Select NO and press OK.

 8.  Press the HOME button.

Attempt to print.

Okay, the issue seems to be that no matter what paper type setting is set the printer will not change off of A4, insisits on printing only A4 size paper, and will not change to any other setting.  Is there something else we can try?

Hi gregs1,

Please follow these steps:

1.  Press the HOME button on your PIXMA MG5720.

2.  Press the up arrow 1 time.

3.  Press the button under the screwdriver and wrench (Setup).

4.  Press the right arrow to select Device Settings and press OK.

5.  Use the down arrow to select Cassette settings and press OK.

6.  Press OK on Register paper cassette info.

7.  Press OK.

8.  Use the arrow keys to set the Page size to Letter and press OK.

9.  Use the arrow keys to select Plain paper and press OK.

Are you able to set the paper size and type to Letter and Plain paper?
