Enable bi-directional support?

Having made no change that I am aware of to my MX 490, when I select the option for duplex printing in the dialog box, I have started getting the following popup message:

"Cannot communicate with the printer.
Turn Enable bi-directional support on in the printer's Properties dialog box."

And then the job prints only on one side.

I have looked all around, and I can't find any box to check for this.  I'd sure appreciate some direction on how to do what it tells me.
