Canon MX920 is always offline

MathijsMoonen

A couple of months ago I bought a Canon MX920 series printer and after I installed it it worked perfectly fine, however, since a couple of days ago I'm no longer able to print. Every time I press the 'print' button I get the message 'The printer is offline. Please check if the printer is either connected or turned on' (rough translation, i'm using a dutch computer). After having done both those things the printer still doesnt work. The printer works fine for all the other computers in my house, except for the one i'm using. The computer system that I use is Windows 7.

Does anybody know how to resolve this issue?

Hi MathijsMoonen,

The Windows Firewall could cause this to occur.  To temporarily disable the Windows Firewall, please follow these steps:

 1.  Click on Start and then Control Panel.

 2.  Click on Security Center and then Windows Firewall.

 3.  Select OFF and then click OK.

Once disabled, open the Canon IJ Network Tool to verify communication:

 1.  Click Start point to All Programs, Canon IJ Network Utilities, Canon IJ Network Tool and then click on Canon IJ Network Tool.

 2.  Select the machine and click Utility.

 3.  Select Network in the pop-up menu.

 4.  Select the machine and click Network Settings.

Once set, please attempt to print.  If the issue persists, please try this:

 1.  Press <SETUP>.

 2.  Press the right arrow key to select Device Settings and press OK.

 3.  Press the down arrow key to select LAN Settings and press OK.

 4.  Press OK on Confirm LAN Settings.

 5.  Press OK on WLAN Settings List.

The IP address will be in this list, please copy the address down on a piece of paper.

On the computer, please follow these steps:

 1.  Click on Start and then Control Panel.

 2.  Click on Printers.

 3.  Right click the PIXMA MX920 and left click on Properties.

 4.  Click on the Ports tab.

 5.  Click the Add Port button.

 6.  Choose Standard TCP/IP Port.

 7.  Click New Port.

 8.  In the wizard, click Next and then type the IP address of your printer in the box.

 9.  Click Next.

10.  Click Finish.

11.  The checkmark should be next to the port that we just created.  If not, please checkmark it.

12.  Click Apply and OK.

The issue should be resolved.

There too many steps here.

It is so easy for human error.

Plus, I do not want to turn off my firewall.

you MAY have to do the long setup, OR you MAY NOT.

I spent weeks on and off trying to solve this issue - without luck

I then decided to re-install my MP driver. This did NOT fix my problem

BUT following the steps here did:

http://ugp01.c-ij.com/ij/webmanual/Manual/W/MX920%20series/EN/NTR/NTR_Ijinst_Page1.html

Long story SHORT:

My problem was identified at LAN CHECK 4, as shown below.

The real problem was that for security reasons, I had turned off my router BROADCAST, so the "access point" (my home wifi) had to be manually entered.

PLEASE NOTE:

My printer DISPLAY for  "access point" screen is not as per the support link below.

BUT the setup CONFIRMED connection - and all is well.

Cannot Detect the Machine with the Wireless LAN: Check 4

Is the machine connected to the access point?

By using the operation panel of the machine, make sure that the machine is connected to the access point.

Press the MENU button, then select Setup > Device settings > LAN settings > Confirm LAN settings > WLAN setting list.

Worst Printer and Printer support ever!! There is no rhyme or reason why it goes offline and then mysteriously starts printing again!! I have tried everything! Most solutions here will not work because the boxes stay grayed out. Others just don't work period. I contacted suppoort and they have me jump through hoops that lead nowhere. I know it is the printer because everything else is working just fine. My internet connection, my laptop prints at work on other printers.  I switched from HP for a better quality printer but it's completely useless if I can't use it when I need it!!

There too many steps here.

It is so easy for human error.

Plus, I do not want to turn off my firewall.

Hi,

I have had my Canon MX920 for over a year. About a month ago, the printer started disconnecting from the wifi router, sometimes in the middle of a job. Nothing has changed since I bought the printer. The only way I can get it to work is to turn it off and turn it back on again, but even then, it will disconnect in the middle of a scanning job,

I have a Macbook Pro and a Netgear router.

Keith496,

What is the connection status of the printer?

1.  Press the Menu Button on the printer.

2.  Use the arrow buttons to select Setup and press OK.

3.  Select Device Settings and press OK.

4.  Select LAN Settings and press OK.

5.  Select Confirm LAN Settings and press OK.

6.  Select Print LAN Details.  Then confirm the printout.

7.  A sheet will print displaying the network information.

Is the link status 'Active' or 'Inactive'?

What is the SSID?

What is the signal strength percentage?

FWIW

The printer scanner works great.

Problem (for me) was the windows network driver - which made it look like the printer configuartion was the issue.

As it happens I installed linux mint.

Now network, scnner, printer -  all works great.
