This printer is not on the list of incompatible Printers so should I be able to Scan now? Any suggestions on what I can do will be most welcome.

I am having the same problem. I also have a Canon Pixama MP230 and it prints fine.
I have downloaded & installed the driver with the provided disk and on the official Canon website and both did not fix the scanning issue. As you can see in the image below the MP230 is a printer/scanner. The computer does not scan with the built in and 3rd party scaning software.
