Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector EX not installing

originalgabriel

Okay so, I managed to stump Canon tier three support and they recommended I contact Microsoft support who refused to help without me paying them $99.

I have a Canon MX922 multifunction that worked flawlessly with Windows 8 however, after upgrading (with a clean install) to Windows 8.1, I can not get the drivers to fully install.

When running the install package (mast-win-mx920-1_0-ucd.exe) I get no errors however, the IJ Network Scanner Selector EX is not getting installed (this is needed to scan across the network). I extracted that install package (\mast-win-mx920-1_0-ucd.exe\mast-win-mx920-1_0-ucd\win\Driver\LANUTIL\SELECTOR\) from the main install package and tried to run it and received the following error: "An error occurred while files were being copied." and then the install fails.

Before calling Canon, I tried installing both the main install package as well as the IJ Network Scanner Selector EX package in a clean boot state and received the same results.

The only thing Canon could come up with was to copy 'usbscan.sys' to C:\, C:\Windows\System32\drivers and C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository and to try again.

Anyone have any ideas?

Below is the install log:

1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

Don't know if this will help but I found a solution for it not installing on my systems.

Fresh install of win 8.1 pro and it installs fine

add avast anti virus and it works but if you try to install it fails

turn off all features of Avast and it still fails to install

uninstall Avast and reboot and it will still fail to install

found out Avast does not uninstall and blocks the network scanner selector program from setting the connection

Solution albeit strange and can't confirm if it works for other anti virus software is:

uninstall Avast

install Avast again

uninstall Avast right after the fresh install

Appears to be the only way to get Avast to completely uninstall

Load all your Canon drivers and test

If all work and they probably will

Install Avast

Again, this may be similar issue with other anti virus software but can't confirm

Had to do this proceedure on a laptop, a tablet, and 3 desktops and it has worked on all of them

good luck and hope it helps

Hello,

I experience the same problem with a Canon MG5450. I bought this printer a week ago. In my case the install package is [mast-win-mg5400-1_0-mcd.exe] and I tried to install it also on W8.1: I received the same error in french "Une erreur est survenue pendant la copie des fichiers" and the install process stopped. Similar phenomenon occured with Scan Gear software. I haven't call yet Canon support as I can however scan with windows utility  Fax & Scan.

Also I installed the same package on another PC running under Vista with no problem. I tried to copy the folder created on this PC on the W8.1 one and tried to launch Network Scanner Selector EX, but an error occured (Probably reg keys are missing).

Has anyone else encountered similar problem? If a lot of people experience the same phenomenon, maybe we could report it to Canon who will finally correct the install package for W8.1.

Please contact Canon with your issues ... I come from a background in IT (everything Canon asked me to do before saying it was Microsoft's issue I had already done) and know that this is a driver issue on Canons side I've found a few other posts in other boards with the same issue sadly, I forgot to bookmark them).  Without others coming forward, this issue wont be resolved.

LDM13 -- Thank you!

My system is Win 8.1 Pro 64 bit, running Avast. I followed your directions to the letter and it worked for me exactly the same way you described it. Thank you for posting this!

I also followed your procedure and was finally able to install all the software provided with the printer. I also use Avast on W8.1.

Thank you to post your findings and to share them with others.

thank you!! this saved my day

followed instructions and it is solved.

this should be moved/copied to FAQ at support

I can confirm this works; thanks for tracking this down.

I'm going to forward the info to Canon and Avast in hopes they can sort this out.

This worked for me -- THANK YOU! Although, I only had to uninstall Avast (not reinstall and remove again) so I lucked out with less work. I did explain to Canon support that I was running Avast, but they failed to recognize that as being a possible problem -- instead, after a very long trouble shooting session with no success, I was told to try to create another account with administrative permissions, which did not do the trick, and again, they never suggested removing Avast -- your solution saved the day -- Canon support -- take note!

I found this issue pretty strange, but I can also confirm that the workaround is effective. However, I did not need to reinstall avast twice but once (as frankenman). So thank you guys, you've just saved my day.
