Can't connect to Canon MG 3100 from Windows 10 laptop

wmmeden

I am trying to connect my Windows 10 laptop to my Canon MG3100 printer using a wireless connection.  I've installed the software, but my router does not have a WPS button, so I am trying to use the USB cable to connect to the printer.  I've followed the instructions and have pressed the key on the printer and hooked up the cable when prompted, but I get an error message that reads: "MP Drivers: An error occurred while communicating with the printer."

I've uninstalled everything and started over, but I still can't get the laptop to talk to the printer in this process.  What do I need  to do to get this resolved?

Hi wmmeden,

Reinstalling the network port and printer driver of your PIXMA MG3120 will resolve this issue.  To do this, please follow these steps:

 1.  Right click the Windows Start Menu button in the lower left hand corner and left click Control Panel.

 2.  Under Programs, click on Uninstall a Program.

 3.  Click on the Canon MG3100 MP Driver and then click Uninstall at the top.

 4.  Follow the prompts to uninstall the driver.

 5.  Click on the Canon IJ Network Tool and the click Uninstall at the top.

 6.  Follow the prompts to uninstall the network tool.

 7.  Click on the Canon IJ Network Scan Utility and then click Uninstall at the top.

 8.  Follow the prompts to uninstall the scan utility.

 9.  Restart the computer once complete.

When the computer restarts, please follow these steps:

 1.  Visit Canon's website at: http://usa.canon.com/support

 2.  Type PIXMA MG3120 in the "Enter a Model" box and click GO.

 3.  In the Drivers & Downloads section, under Recommended,  please click the "Select" button next to the MG3100 series MP Driver.

 4.  Click the Download button.

 5.  If a Save dialog box appears, click Save.

 6.  Once the download is complete, open the Downloads folder.

 7.  Double click [mp68-win-mg3100-1_01-ejs.exe].  Files will extract.
