Call to Arms for the dreaded U052 Wrong Printhead Error

macnicol

This is a "call to arms" for all of you Canon customers who have had this problem and have had their printers disabled because of it.  Please respond with the model of your printer and if you were able to fix it, what you did to fix it.

We need to put pressure on Canon to respond this product defect.  It appears to be bad firmware that does not allow the user to override the problem and to continue to use the printer even in a degraded mode.  From my investigations the problem is NOT a printhead issue - no way one can be printing fine and then have this error alert without having changed the printhead or ink cartridges!

Canon, PLEASE take this issue seriously and provide a solution across the affected models.  If nothing else there should be a trade-in allowance for those printers that have been affected by this product defect.

I have had many Canon printers because they have superior functional specifications. I want to be able to continue using Canon products but only if I can have confidence that this product defect will not destroy my investment.

If Canon is unresponsive our next step should be to aggressively publisize this product defect on social media and on major product vendor outlet sites as negatives reviews.

Forum Users, please reply with your affected model number(s) and with details of any succdessful fix procedure.

The next victim is my MG5350 that, today after sucessfully printing a few pages decided it no longer has the correct print head, displaying the U052 error message the printer is bearly 12months old.

I called Canon customer service and they refered me to the local authorised repairer to have an assessment done, i called the repairer and she simply looked up the error code and told me i needed a new print head that would cost me more than the price of the printer..... How Recidulous.

Hopefully this post will be treated the same as some previous, with an email from Canon telling me how i can arrange for a replacement printer.

Posting links is almost certainly against forum rules and the post would be removed But FYI, apparently Federman & Sherwood is investigating a class-action lawsuit against Canon Inc for faulty printheads and the U052 error.

Yes they are. Federman & Sherwood. Google it for contact details. Spread the word.

Yes, the class action information link is on the homepage of Federman and Sherwood. It looks as if they have begun an investigation and are looking for people who have had the UO52 error to share their experience.

I have recently had the experience of being stonewalled by the Canon service people in Cape Town. While I know there will be no joy this far from the US and am keen to know how this pans out.

I have a Canon MX892 with print head error 052.  I followed all steps to clean and reset the print head but to no avail.  I contacted the Canon center.  They basically told me what i read online to clean an reset.  They said i would need to replace the print head which costs more that the printer or to buy their MX992 printer and that my printer is not under warranty. Unfortunately my error occurred one month after warranty was expired.  I have had to replace multiple cartridges sinci read on e i got the printer costing approximately $50_From what i can tell, all the ink must have ran into the print head as it took forever to get all the ink out of the printhead.

I read on line that  there may be a class action lawsuit.

if anyone has fixed this problem please let me know

Dear Canon, can you please give an update on the status of this printhead problem?

Don't hold your breath for that one. They haven't yet publicly admitted there is a problem.
