Call to Arms for the dreaded U052 Wrong Printhead Error

macnicol
Enthusiast

This is a "call to arms" for all of you Canon customers who have had this problem and have had their printers disabled because of it.  Please respond with the model of your printer and if you were able to fix it, what you did to fix it.

We need to put pressure on Canon to respond this product defect.  It appears to be bad firmware that does not allow the user to override the problem and to continue to use the printer even in a degraded mode.  From my investigations the problem is NOT a printhead issue - no way one can be printing fine and then have this error alert without having changed the printhead or ink cartridges!

Canon, PLEASE take this issue seriously and provide a solution across the affected models.  If nothing else there should be a trade-in allowance for those printers that have been affected by this product defect.

I have had many Canon printers because they have superior functional specifications. I want to be able to continue using Canon products but only if I can have confidence that this product defect will not destroy my investment.

If Canon is unresponsive our next step should be to aggressively publisize this product defect on social media and on major product vendor outlet sites as negatives reviews.

Forum Users, please reply with your affected model number(s) and with details of any succdessful fix procedure.

There's a teeny little envelope on the top right under the search button. That takes you to messages.

I am back to HP printers and regret ever switching to Canon.

My MX922 did this after exactly one year and one month!

I had purchased it with my Visa card that doubles the warranty period, so I filed a claim.

Yesterday, I received a cheque for $177., the full price that I had paid for it.

Guess  what I'm buying with it? NOT a Canon printer, that's for sure!

Wonderful news.  After hundreds of postings of bitter resentment against Canon, you give us something to smile about.

May The Force be with you.  Smiley Happy

Always hate to see corporate ripoffs by companies we used to trust.

That's great news, Gina, well done you!

You're fortunate, most of programmed self destructi happens well after the warranty is expired.

The original one-year warranty expired in July. The problem happened one month later, in August. The Visa extended warranty kicked in after that. It simply doubles the original warranty, whatever that is.

That's great, at least Visa honors their customers, I have used this same feature in the past but my printer went bad 3 years after the purchase, so I wouldn't qualify for the extera warranty, they double the warranty upto one extra year, so after two years have passed I am out of warranty, right?  Canon warranty is one year, Visa one year.  Happy you could collect, Praise the Lord

Your not that far from me, Charlo NB, small world.

God bless

Jim

It's my understanding that Visa will double the warranty, whatever it is. For instance, my coffee machine had a two-year warranty and that became four years.

Thanks Gina, I sure will check that out, not sure what the Canon warrant is on an MX892, not even sure I registered it with Canon.

God bless

Jim

The Visa card that I have bears a fee of $99 a year, and that includes an auto club membership and travel insurance as well as the extended warranty benefit, but I also get 1% back on all my purchases, so at the very least it pays for itself. (And I once had my car towed four times in the same year!)
