Call to Arms for the dreaded U052 Wrong Printhead Error

macnicol

This is a "call to arms" for all of you Canon customers who have had this problem and have had their printers disabled because of it.  Please respond with the model of your printer and if you were able to fix it, what you did to fix it.

We need to put pressure on Canon to respond this product defect.  It appears to be bad firmware that does not allow the user to override the problem and to continue to use the printer even in a degraded mode.  From my investigations the problem is NOT a printhead issue - no way one can be printing fine and then have this error alert without having changed the printhead or ink cartridges!

Canon, PLEASE take this issue seriously and provide a solution across the affected models.  If nothing else there should be a trade-in allowance for those printers that have been affected by this product defect.

I have had many Canon printers because they have superior functional specifications. I want to be able to continue using Canon products but only if I can have confidence that this product defect will not destroy my investment.

If Canon is unresponsive our next step should be to aggressively publisize this product defect on social media and on major product vendor outlet sites as negatives reviews.

Forum Users, please reply with your affected model number(s) and with details of any succdessful fix procedure.

Agree with your post. Which forums would you suggest?

I doubt if the Canon forum censor would allow us to post this info but I would certainly be willng to join every forum that is relevant to spread the word of this major consumer ripoff.
Always hate to see corporate ripoffs by companies we used to trust.

i saw another post by mcaxley.  the post was removed almost as quickly as it posted.  looks like Canon removed access again.

me too this is bull**bleep** and cannon have stitched us up here. BIG DISSAPOINTMENT as I have always bought canon printers because of their quality and long standing in the marketplace.

Many people turn to Youtube for videos on how to attempt to repair theU052 error. It’s great to see the comments now appearing regarding the futility of the effort. If you encounter postings or reviews regarding the U052, please always comment with your experience.

In the meanwhile, what we need from Canon is the following:

  1. Public acknowledgement of the defect, its cause, and the impact.

  2. A free fix from Canon. This could be a free replacement printhead, and if that doesn’t work, a replacement printer. A firmware “work-around” could also work. Spending time and money shipping printers back and forth for repair is not acceptable.

  3. Cartridge exchange program to replace any ink cartridges that can no longer be used.

I completely agree with you skiCO and think you make some good points. Too bad Canon chooses to ignore them! That said, I've given up on Canon. They have lost my business for GOOD. That's just me though. I subscribed to this thread and get inundated with e-mails that continuously remind me of how ridiculous this error message is. Why can't the features work independently of one another? Print head error so it can't scan now either? I mean, come on. Either a conspiracy on the behalf of Canon or a huge oversight/incompetence. Either way, I won't be spending my $ on Canon again.....ever! I desist

Hi

Has anyone found a fix for this? In the middle of a big job with client expecting delivery early next week when suddendly printer started printing blank pages. After deep clean and all that got this very same printhead error. Really worried may miss deadline!

Michelle, buy another printer, not a Canon. If you wait for the Canon to be fixed you won't get your job completed. Canon is not going to help you. It is apparent that Canon isn't interested in providing an answer to this issue. Read all the posts they all say the same thing. Buy an HP

My MP-610 has started his journey into the great blue yonder. I chucked it into the dustbin and that got emptied yesterday. Have now started looking at Epson and Brother for replacement. Nice printer, the MP-610, at least for the 14 months it worked. To bad the service isn't as nice. Thank God there are other companies that make the same if not better printers. Goodbye Canon, we will never do business again.

Thank you. If you all go ahead with this law suit count me in, will add all the stress related anxiety to the argument. Looking at Epson right now, they have a nice range of printers.
