When I try to format my memory card the format section is ghosted out

I'm having difficulty trying to format a new memory card for an older Canon PowerShot S2 model camera.  When I select tools and scroll down to Format, the Format is ghosted out so I can't select it.  Also when I turn on the camera it says memory card error.  I would like to take pictures but can't until I get a memory card formatted and in my camera.  Thanks.

How old? What model? Are you trying to use a newer card in an old camera? The older SD cards are a different type than current ones, as I understand it.

Why do so many people say "FER-tographer"? Do they take "fertographs"?

Hi Scotty,

Thanks for your reply!  The camera is a PowerShot S2IS.  I believe it is at least 5 years old. The memory cards I was using were new from Target.  They were SDHC cards.  Thanks again for your assistance!

Hi,

Unfortunately that camera can only use the old SD cards, not the newer SDHC cards. It was released in June of 2005, so it is no spring chicken as cameras go these days.

Maybe someone on Ebay or Craigslist is selling old SD cards cheap. I think they only go up to 2 GB, but I am not sure on that.

Good luck.
