I recenty purchased a SX 280 for its relatively good reviews in its class, and most importantly, its Wi-fi capability (for camera to computer photo transfer). But after going through many steps to finally have it up and running, its performance is quite disappointing.
1. It takes about 20 seconds just to connect to the AP and then the computer. Why so long? A basic cell phone/laptop connects to Wi-fi in under 5 seconds.
2. The actualy transfer speed is around 200KB/s for me. I know for a fact that my router (Wireless N only mode, 3 X 3 MIMO) is a solid performer and even the *slowest* client device in my house, an old LG smartphone, can do around 3MB/second from the router. This speed makes large photo transfers (each file is around 4MB is on this camera) painfully slow.
I'm considering returning the camera at this point. What kind of speed do you guys get with Wi-fi on this model? Are their other models/brands with proven better Wi-fi performances?
Thanks.
